Important Term 4 Dates

News from Mr Weston-Murdoch

Dear parents and caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 4!
School Values and Expectations: Weeks 1 & 2
Our focus for this fortnight is: Safe and Kind

Bridge Builders – Skill of the week
The skills we’ve been practising.
(Week 1): Make an Agreement
We all know that there are differences and disagreements in all relationships. Therefore, it is logical that how you resolve these disagreements will be critical to the on-going success of those relationships.
Sometimes in a conflict there is common ground. This is something that both children want that is the same. An argument can become complicated by continued hurtful behaviours. Asking children “What do you both want that is the same?” can stop the bickering and help them to focus on what the original problem was and lead them to make an agreement.
Try to remain neutral if you can and let your kids sort it out with your help. Remember that conflict is not bad, it’s an everyday part of life and a great opportunity to learn.

(Week 2): Apologise
An apology can be one of the most powerful ways to build a bridge in conflict situations. Giving an apology with meaning and at the right time can bridge the problem quickly and allow children to move on from it.
Children need to be encouraged to look at the person they are apologising to. Eye contact is important in communication. Sincerity is key in an apology, so starting by using the other child’s name is good. It not only gains the person’s attention, it also shows respect. Children should be encouraged to say what they are sorry for, because this shows recognition of what they have done that has caused the pain.
Where possible, it is helpful to encourage children to ‘do’ something that restores justice and can repair the obstacles in the relationship caused by conflict. In some situations, children can’t ‘do’ anything to solve the problem, like when someone has called them a name, hit them or blames them for something they didn’t do. In these cases, they could say, “I’ll try not to do it again.”

News from Mr Corbett

Dear Families,
Welcome back to the final and exciting term of the year! I hope you all had a relaxing and refreshing break, ready for what promises to be a fantastic Term 4. This term is always packed with engaging learning experiences, fun activities, and important milestones as we wrap up the year.
For our Year 4 students and families, there’s plenty to look forward to! The Year 4 camp is on from the 18th to 20th November, and we’ll be holding a camp information night on 21st October. We’re also excited for the Year 4 excursion to the Tarcoola Track, which will take place in Week 5.
To all our Year 3 and 4 students, I’m looking forward to seeing all your hard work and growth throughout the term. Let’s make the most of this final stretch, supporting one another and finishing the year on a high!
Wishing everyone a fantastic Term 4 ahead!
Kind regards,
Thomas Corbett
Deputy Principal (Years 3 & 4)
Maths Rotations in 4A – Learning About Mass, Volume and Capacity!
Last week, 4A dived into some hands-on learning during their Maths rotations, focusing on mass, volume, and capacity. Students practised using analogue scales to measure the weights of various objects around the classroom. Before weighing, they estimated each object’s mass, testing their predictions against the actual measurements. It was wonderful to see everyone engaged, working together, and improving their measuring skills!

Fractions in 3A – Halves, Thirds, Quarters and Fifths
During Week 1, 3A jumped into learning about fractions, focusing on halves, thirds, quarters, and fifths. Through a variety of hands-on activities, students explored how to divide shapes and numbers into equal parts. Whether it was cutting paper shapes, sharing objects or working with number lines, the class enthusiastically engaged with these foundational concepts. It was fantastic to see their understanding grow as they applied their knowledge in practical and creative ways!

News from Mrs Bailey

Dear Parents & Caregivers,
I hope you had a lovely long weekend; I’m already looking forward to a rich and eventful Term 4!
Please enjoy updates below from students and teachers.
The UQ Demo Troupe came to Ironside to spread the love of science for National Science Week.
We learnt about…
- Air: Whether we realise it or not, we're always under pressure—air pressure! We will make cloud, inside a bottle.
- Light and colour: It was like painting, but with light instead of brush.
- Phases of matter: Liquid that boils at -196 degrees Celsius—liquid nitrogen! We will find out just how different this liquid is and use it to observe superconductivity.

They wowed the students with a variety of fun activities. Here we see one of the troupes demonstrating super conductivity, and another deciding to take a nap on a bed of nails!

The Year 5’s very much enjoyed the demonstration. Thank you, UQ, and thank you to Jacq Romero for coordinating this event for our students.
Ironside Students Excel at Maths Team Tournament:
Our Ironside students had a fantastic day at the Maths Team Tournament held at Fig Tree Pocket State School. Competing in both the Team Paper, which tested their collaborative problem-solving skills, and the Relay Paper, where pairs raced against the clock, our students displayed exceptional teamwork and perseverance. We are thrilled to announce that Team 4 claimed first place, with Teams 2 and 3 tying for third place. Team 1 also put in a commendable effort, finishing in fifth. With four of the top five places going to Ironside teams, we are incredibly proud of our mathletes!
Team 1
Alicia, Nandini, Hannah, Amber, Sithumi
Team 2
Jacob, Rishyaan, Edison, Abhan, Ian
Team 3

Congratulations to all the students for their outstanding achievements and hard work, making the school incredibly proud!

Below you will see the link to the 2024 Swimming Carnival Stroke Selection form. This form can be used to select the swim strokes your child would like to swim at the carnival. Please be aware that year 4,5 and 6 students have also been given this link, so please ask your child if they have already filled in a form before filling one in yourself.
Sitting down with your child and discussing what they would like to participate in will help negate the need to fill in the form multiple times to fix nomination mistakes. In any case, after the nomination due date, which is Friday, November 8th, I will go through all the nominations and with any duplicates I will only keep the one with the latest timestamp.

Payment due dates
As we begin a new school term, we'd like to remind you about the importance of making timely payments for excursions, incursions or other school event.
Many of the events we organise throughout the year involve a great deal of planning and organisation. Transport and entrance costs need to be paid in advance, and in many instances, numbers need to be finalised with third parties before the actual event day.
We'd hate for your child(ren) to miss out on these fantastic learning opportunities and for this reason, we kindly ask you to make a note of payment due dates for any upcoming event.
If making a payment via BPoint, please allow at least 48 hours for the payment to appear on your account.
Thank you for your co-operation and support.
QParents
In our continuous efforts to enhance communication and streamline administrative processes, we will be transitioning to QParents for the following areas: reporting of school absences, invoice & payments, consent for activities, and accessing school reports.
QParents will eventually become the main hub for all these tasks.
In order make this transition a success it’s important for all parents to be registered and have access to QParents.
Here’s what you’ll be able to do with QParents once registered:
- View and download report cards online as soon as they are published
- Provide us with a reason for unexplained student absences, anytime and anywhere
- Notify the school of a future student absence at any time
- Pay your invoices. No cash or waiting at reception required, simply log in and pay online at any time
- Forget having to fill out and deliver a paper form for consent. Instead, provide consent for excursions and events using the QParents app.
The registration process is straightforward but it’s simpler if you use a home computer or laptop rather than your mobile phone*.
* After registering you can download the QParents app to log in and use on your mobile phone.
Please see below on how to register.
Please note, you will be asked to provide your child’s EQI number. You should be able to find this on a recent invoice. If you still cannot find this, please email enrolments@ironsidess.eq.edu.au and request it.
STEPS TO REGISTER
- Locate your invite code (check your email. If you don't have this, please email the above)
- Click the following link: https://qparents.qld.edu.au/#/registration/account-owner/invitation/
- Follow instruction to get your ID verified.
- Once verified you will have full access to QParents. Now you can download the app for your phone.
Please note, for the majority of parents, you will be able to get your documents verified online. If, however, you do not have the 100 points needed to register, you will need to come to the school to present your documents.
Invoices
BPoint is the preferred payment method for Department of Education, due to the efficiencies that automated receipting brings to schools. BPoint is an online payment system which provides schools with a secure and efficient method of collecting payments for parents/customers. BPoint allows a parent to pay their child's invoices directly from home and receive the receipt immediately.
Click directly onto the link on your invoice (example one) at the bottom left-hand corner of your invoice. By clicking on the link on your invoice it will automatically fill in your CRN (Customer Reference Number) and invoice number. All you need to do is fill in the amount you want to pay. You cannot pay multiple invoices on the one link.
If you want to pay all your invoices online, you can do this by clicking the link in the box and entering the exact six-digit invoice number from your statement (example two).

Example one

Example two
If you prefer, click the link below and follow the steps to make a payment.
