Term 4, Week 3

Hi Everyone,

So much happens every week at Ironside State School and that is why I really want to put out a newsletter weekly. The week just gone was no different!

SPRING FAIR - save the date - Saturday the 2nd of November!!! I’ll talk about it at the end of the newsletter too!!

Congratulations to all of the Year 5s who went on the Year 5 Camp last week to Tyalgum - you were amazing!!! Seriously, what a delightful group of people our Year 5 children are, both collectively and individually. Despite heavy rain for the first 2 days, they just oozed positivity and a can-do attitude - great future leaders!! Shout-outs must go to Ms Hannah McFarlane for all of her organisation, it went off without a hitch! Massive thank you to the outstanding Year 5 teaching team, as well as the extra staff who came along to help (Mrs Julie Heyden, Mr Nathan Reardon, Ms Julie Short, Mr Tim Shepherd, Ms Georgia O’Donnell, Mrs Jessica Ballantyne and Mrs Katie Bailey); they are wonderful, caring adults to have around supporting our children. Thank you to our parent helpers; Mrs Amanda Mitchell and Mr Bo Zhou, we are so grateful you could join us! I have to also make a mention of the incredible location, facilities and staff at the camp; they really were brilliant! Please see my photo section below, I managed to get a few snaps when it wasn’t pouring!

Congratulations to all of those children who received a Merit Certificate on Friday at the 3-6 Assembly! I also believe the Year 3 Choir were just beautiful, I am so sorry I had to miss them. Thank you to them and their teacher Mrs Kellie Wilson! This Friday’s assembly (18 October) will be our Prep to 2 Merit Assembly and our band will be entertaining us!

Speaking of music, we have a whole week of Music Fest this week, including on the weekend - how wonderful! Part of that is going to be some strings solos this Friday at lunchtime in the library and I have no doubt they will be amazing! Big thank you to our instrumental music teachers Mrs Trudy Weekes and Mr James Kukulies.

We have welcomed back our religious educators last week and we thank them again for volunteering their time to bring religious instruction to Ironside State School!

Our first 2025 Prep Enrolment Day was last Friday, and we have another one coming up this Friday. If you know anyone who was wanting to enrol their child here at Ironside in Prep in 2025 please ask them to contact us as soon as possible. If you know anyone wants to enrol in any year level for 2025, please ask them to contact us. Also, if you are planning on moving away and your children won’t be attending Ironside SS in 2025, can you please contact us. All of this will help planning classes, teachers and spaces.

CONGRATULATIONS to our STEM Team. They were in a STEM forum last week and won 3 awards! The Year 5 team won an award in Design Engineering - Communications and two of the Year 6 teams won an award, one of them being the overall award!!! Wow!! Big congratulations to all of the children and thank you to their coaches, Mr Bryan Chow and Mrs Marianne Huxley!

More CONGRATULATIONS, this time to our Year 6 Debating Team! They competed in the Queensland Debating Comp last week and one team won and one lost. The topic was: playing outside is better than inside. Congratulations to all of the children involved, it is such a valuable life-skill and so important in the workplace too. Thank you to their wonderful coaches Ms Dannielle Faithfull and Mr James Tait.

Harry Hawkins needs to be congratulated also! Harry was selected to play Futsal for Queensland in the National Schools Futsal Championship, and after 4 days QLD won the Grand Final and are the U8 National Champions. Harry was predominantly the goal keeper but also played some games as striker and scored several goals. It was announced that Harry is Australian All-Star based on his performance during the tournament and selected for the Australian team - wow Harry! Thank you to Mr Jeremie Clarke-Okah who did all of the organising for futsal in our school!

Ok, now back to the Spring Fair! Please don’t just come along but get involved too! See below, our wonderful Spring Fair team let us know how to help in their last flyer!
