Acknowledgement of Country

Ironside State School acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging for they hold the traditions, culture, memories and hopes of Indigenous Australia.  The Turrbal Aboriginal Nation, who spoke the Jagera Language, roamed these lands.

Principal's Message Term 4, Week 5

Hi Everyone,

I want to start by saying SPRING FAIR, Saturday the 2nd November is this week!!  Thank you so much to everyone who is has been preparing and helping our amazing committee.  Thank you in advance to everyone who is helping on the day; whether that is setting up, helping on a stall or packing down, it all helps, and we are so grateful!

We have been having some Fire Drills and Lockdown practices in the last couple of weeks.  Rest assured, these are just standard procedures that we have to practice once a term in schools.  If your child has a conversation with you about these, please keep encouraging them to simply be calm and follow the instructions of the nearest staff member.  Thank you for supporting our messages.

I had the absolute privilege of accompanying Mrs Katie Bailey to the Year 5 and 6 Rotary Project Presentation Night.  Wow!!  What an outstanding group of young people, what they achieved to complete their projects was astonishing!  Congratulations to all of them and their support teams (their families) and also, Mrs Katie Bailey who made the whole thing possible. Rotary let us know that they are taking a container overseas to underprivileged communities and wondered if people could help out by donating old stationery.  We really only have this week and maybe early next week to do that.  We will pop a donation box in the office to collect these into - they said old stationery e.g. pencils, pens, rulers, exercise books etc.  No need to buy anything new, though you can if you wish.

Congratulations to all of the children who received a 3-6 STAR Award at Friday’s assembly!  I also believe the Year 4 Choir was brilliant, so big thank you to them.  (I had to miss the assembly and this Friday’s too, as I am in professional development those days).  This Friday’s assembly will feature the Year 1 choir and will be the P-2 STAR Assembly.

This week our Year 4 Children are getting out on an excursion down the Tarcoola Track as part of their learning for their current unit of work (let’s hope the weather is kind!).   We also have our Debating Teams doing their next round of competitions on Wednesday -  good luck kids!!

Calling all Instrumental Music parents, the Parent Information Night for 2025 is this Wednesday at 6pm and we hope you can make it.  The instrumental music program at Ironside is outstanding and we are grateful to our incredible teachers.

Our next P&C Meeting is tomorrow night (Tuesday) and I am hoping that you can come along.  P&Cs really are a wonderful way to be involved in your child’s school   -  come and join us.

Thank you to our P&C who paid for us to cater a beautiful breakfast to our very deserving teachers for World Teacher’s Day on Friday and thank you for our staff who helped to put it all together!  Thank you also to those parents and children who took the time to write to their teacher, your kind words mean so much!

This Friday is another 2025 Prep Enrolment Day.  I will reiterate that if you know of anyone wanting to enrol their child at Ironside for 2025, please have them contact us now.  It really makes for a much more settled school if we know how many children we are expecting.

Let’s finish off with SPRING FAIR!!  On behalf of the Spring Fair Committee, thank you so much to all of the generous donations from families and the community.  There are 86 entries in the cake competition  -  wow, wow, wow!  They will be displayed at the fair and there will be 15 winners announced.  If you haven’t bought your ride bands, cash card or pool entry ticket, don't panic, you can buy these on the day next Saturday.  Fashion Trashion Parade - enter now and be up there modelling your creations on the day.  Also, a Containers for Change Station will be set up at the Spring Fair - come and donate your empty 10c cans and bottles to our school.

We are going to have the best day - see you this Saturday 2nd November at Ironside State School P&C’s Spring Fair!

Yours in Education

Angie Kelly

Have a wonderful week everyone!
