Acknowledgement of Country

Ironside State School acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging for they hold the traditions, culture, memories and hopes of Indigenous Australia.  The Turrbal Aboriginal Nation, who spoke the Jagera Language, roamed these lands.

Term 4, Week 7 Newsflash

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to our 9-Year-Old Boys Futsal Team who are the Australasian Futsal Champion of Champions!!!!!!  Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!!

What an achievement!!!!!  We need a ticker tape parade!!  Congratulations to them and Mr Jeremie Clarke-Okah their coach!  What a bunch of little legends!!

Today I had the privilege of going with our School Captains and Mrs Katie Bailey to the Toowong Cenotaph for Remembrance Day.  It was a moving service and our Captains were great ambassadors for our school.  Though Remembrance Day originally marked the end of World War 1 and the fighting on the Western Front on November 11, 1918; now around the world, it is a day to remember the sacrifice of the countless number of people who have served their country.

We do not glorify war, but we do remember.  Lest We Forget.

Congratulations to all of the children who received a Merit Certificate at the Year 3-6 Merit Assembly!

It was special getting to see our Junior Strings performing on assembly on Friday.  It has been a while since I have seen them perform and they have improved so much.  Thank you to them and their wonderful teacher, Mrs Kellie Wilson!

This Friday is a Prep to Year 2 Merit Assembly and our Year 2 Choir are performing and are being backed by the Intermediate Strings.  I am really looking forward to this.

Our Debating Teams were also acknowledged beautifully on assembly by their wonderful coaches, Ms Danielle Faithfull and Mr James Tait.  Mrs Meg Breen, one of our parents, was also given ’shout-outs’ for the enormous amount of support she gave to teaching the teams too.  The dedication and passion of these children, as well as the quality of their speeches was praised - congratulations everyone!!

We have Book Fair happening this week in our wonderful library -  how wonderful!  It is the final Book Fair for the year, so come and get into it!

Have a wonderful week!

Yours in Education

Angie Kelly

PS Can we make pick up time at the end of the school day safer?  We sure can!!  This week I want to remind people to use the crossings.  Even if you are an adult on their own, if children see you not using the crossing, this is the behaviour you are modelling to them and it is dangerous.  Please always cross at light and zebra crossings; let’s work together to keep our community safe.
