Acknowledgement of Country

Ironside State School acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging for they hold the traditions, culture, memories and hopes of Indigenous Australia.  The Turrbal Aboriginal Nation, who spoke the Jagera Language, roamed these lands.

Term 4, Week 9

Hi Everyone,

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!  Over $60 000 raised at the Spring Fair, how incredible!!!  Thank you to everyone involved and an extra, massive thank you to our Spring Fair Committee; Mrs Phoebe Anderson, Mrs Barbie Reeve, Mrs Sonja Bennetto, Mr Michael Archbold and Mr Matthew Chung.  What I loved the most is that this was a beautiful, fun, community event; thank you again everyone!

It was a little bit wet but the Year 4 Camp was just wonderful overall.  Yet again, what a truly delightful group of children they are, individually and collectively.  They were great ambassadors for Ironside State School and their parents should be very proud of them.  The facilities were great at the Sunshine Coast Recreation Precinct, as well as the staff.  The activities there were wonderful  -  fishing, beach games, body boarding, pool games, giant swing, team games and caving in a manmade cave!!  None of this would have been possible without our wonderful Year 4 team!  Our chief organiser was Ms Dannielle Faithfull (who did a truly outstanding job) but the rest of the team contributed enormously too - Mr Thomas Corbett, Mr James Tait, Mr Tim Shephard, Ms Georgia O’Donnell, Ms Mikayla Graves, as well as Mr Jeremie Clarke-Okah, Mrs Terri Avis and Mrs Libby Strong. Thank you so much to all of our wonderful staff and thank you for a great few days kids!  Of course, I took a few snaps, makes sure you check them our further down in our digital newsletter.

Congratulations to those students who received a STAR Award at the 3-6 Assembly on Friday, that is a special achievement.  The Intermediate Strings were the entertainment, and I believe they were magnificent!  Thank you so much to them and Mrs Trudy Weekes.  This Friday it is the P-2 STAR Assembly, and the Year 5/6 Choir will be performing, I am very excited about that!  Also, next Friday, we have the Year 1 & 2 Choirs Mini Concert starting at 2:20pm and I know it will be wonderful!

This Friday will be the last Religious Instruction sessions for the year.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful volunteers who come week in and week out to make this possible at Ironside State School - we are so grateful.

The 100M Swimming Races were very exciting last Friday and they are warming us up for the swimming carnivals this week.  The Year 3/4s on Wednesday and the 5/6s on Thursday.  Please make sure your children have organised everything they need for these great days!

That is not the only great sporting event happening this week….the Prep Sport’s Carnival is coming up Friday and I am told it is quite a sight to behold, I cannot wait to see what it is all about!  :)  Our Preppies are also getting a Puppet Show this week, what lucky kids!!  Thanks so much to our Prep Team for organising all of these great events!

Tomorrow night is our P&C Meeting, the last one for the year.  Why don’t you come and join us?  It starts at 6:30pm in the staffroom and is a great way to be a part of your child’s school.  After the enormous success of the Spring Fair that encouraged such great community spirit, I am hoping we can keep that going.  Come and be part of the future of Ironside!

Tonight is the Instrumental Music Gala, and I cannot tell you how excited I am!!  Our children are extraordinary, and our teachers are world-class, so to have that at a venue like the BBC Hall with those incredible acoustics, I know we are in for something jaw-dropping!  I hope to see you there.

Please remember to show your Qkr receipt at the door to gain entry.

I had the absolute privilege of watching Mrs Kellie Wilson (one of our teachers) performing in Mary Poppins at the 12th Night Theatre recently and she was outstanding!!  If you are looking for a great outing, get along and see the show.  Mrs Wilson’s children are also in it, and they are amazing, the entire cast is and what a magic venue that theatre is, so very intimate and full of history.  Congratulations Mrs Wilson!

Have a wonderful week!

Yours in Education

Angie Kelly

PS Can we make pick up time at the end of the school day safer?  We sure can!  This week is a message for parents who use the Stop, Drop and Go Zone.  To make this process quicker, easier and safer; please put the sign up in your windscreen that tells us who your child or family is that you are picking up.  We created these signs for all families in our school.  If you have lost yours, just grab a black marker and write it on a piece of paper so that we can see it in your windscreen.  This will really make all the difference.  Thanks for helping us to keep our kids and ourselves safer at drop-off and pick-up time.
