Principal's Message Term 4, Week 11
Hi Everyone,
Here we are, at the end of the 2024 school year and what a big year it has been! This week, as you know is a week of alternative activities and we are looking forward to a great week - ball games, student V teachers 3-pin, Ironside’s Got Talent, discos, dragon dancing, rock painting, STEM sessions and more. Thank you to our P&C who sold a sausage sizzle today to support our Summer Dance Party! Thank you also to everyone who remembered a gold coin donation to go with their Free Dress to support NF (Neurofibromatosis)and thank you to our Student Council for organising this, sadly their last hoorah as the 2024 Student Council - they have been so wonderful!
The Year 6 Graduation was very special, congratulations to all of them! Thank you to the Year 6 Team who organised this big event; Mrs Katie Bailey, Mr Brett Perrier, Mr Bryan Chow, Mrs Danni Jeanes, Ms Jade Bowser, Ms Billie Barker and Mr Jamie Henderson. Thank you also to Mrs Marianne Huxley who taught and conducted the Year 6 songs, they were just beautiful! Thank you to our P&C who organised the refreshments. Thank you also to our many staff and parents who helped out in so many ways on the night. Congratulations to all of our award recipients listed here:

The very next day our Year 6s were proudly getting their Senior Shirts signed and their Yearbooks signed. The Yearbooks are just gorgeous, what a wonderful memento!! Thank you so much to the wonderful parents in the Yearbook Committee; Ms Emma Yabsley, Mrs Meg Breen and Ms Jun Gu and to every other person who made it happen - wow!! Yet again, thank you to the Year 6 Team who facilitated the writing and gathering of information. I am so thrilled that the children have these to look back on.
Thank you also to the wonderful parents who facilitated the food, drinks and Graduation Cake for the Year 6 Pool Party. The Year 6 team did a great job facilitating this wonderful day. Thank you also to all of our teachers and parent helpers who facilitated class parties right across the school, they sounded like a roaring success.

Our final assembly for the year was enormous and very moving as we farewelled Year 6 and our outgoing staff, as well as finding out the results of the Swimming Carnivals! Congratulations to all Sturt who took home the shield this year!

Congratulations also to Cook who were the overall winners of the Spirit Shield.

The Age Champions were also announced, congratulations to all of these children, what an achievement!!

Congratulations to Avaya Stanley and Mason Daley who are the 100M Freestyle Champions for 2024 and congratulations to Mason, who also won the Ironside Gift. There were a few records broken and Mason has now broken the second oldest record - wow!

The announcements didn’t stop there, some of our Student Council members flew in and presented the 2024 Student Council Legacy, which was artwork and a permanent covered board to preserve artworks and other important visuals into the future. Thank you, Student Council and Mr Perrier, Mr Chow and Ms Pinkerton, for all you have done this year

We also had our outgoing School Captains, Alice, Barnabas, Mason and Maddie congratulate our 2025 school captains, Edie Reeve, Kahil Amor, Raphael Paramanathan and Zahrena Paramanathan. Thank you so much to our outgoing captains, they have done a fantastic job and congratulations to our 2025 captains, we look forward to working with you.

We finished our assembly with Year 6 singing with Mrs Marianne Huxley and everyone else giving them a standing ovation and a guard of honour, it was just magic!

Congratulations to our Preppies, who are now finishing their first year of school! It was lovely that many parents could come in and celebrate their learning with them. Thank you so much to our Prep Teaching Team!

Prep also had a rockin’ disco with members of the Student Council, as part of their end of year celebrations! Thank you, Student Council!

Last week I farewelled many staff in the newsletter but there is nothing surer than change in organisations, especially schools and we have two more wonderful staff members sadly leaving us. Ms Julie Short is moving over to another Brisbane school to be part of their Inclusion team to develop her knowledge and understanding of different strategic approaches in this area of education. This is an enormous blow for Ironside, as Ms Short is an outstanding teacher who has done so much not only in the classrooms but in the area of learning support, gosh we are going to miss her.
Though we are supporting Ms Short to go, we hope she may return to Ironside. Thank you for all you have done in your 15 years here Ms Short!! Parents of children who have been placed in Ms Short’s class in 2025, I am now going through a recruitment process to source a new teacher for our school.
Congratulations to Ms Elizabeth Graff-Valizadeh who his going to be the acting Business Manager at another Brisbane school in 2025, how exciting! We are very sad to see Ms Graff-Valizadeh go but know that she is keen for this next challenge. We thank her for all she has done for Ironside State School in the decade or so that she has been here.
It is now time for me to sign off for the year. It hasn’t been an easy one I know, and I want to thank the numerous people who have supported me and have shown me kindness in my first year here at Ironside. I would like to thank all of those who volunteer at our school; including the School Council, the P&C Executive, the Class Representatives, Spring Fair Committee, the Yearbook Committee and the countless other parents, caregivers and friends who give up their time to help make our school wonderful. Thank you to the staff at Ironside State School, who work hard for the children and families of this school; your efforts do not go unnoticed. Finally, thank you to the children, you make every day at our school special when you care for others and we are so grateful for who you are. All the very best to both staff, children and families who are leaving us, thank you for all you have done for our school and may your next adventure be wonderful.
Thank goodness for holidays, it is time for a break. I hope yours is a cathartic mix of doing the things you want to do, being with the people who fill your cup and having a true rest; we all need it in this very busy world.
Thanks again and I look forward to seeing all of you who are returning in 2025.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday.
Yours in Education
Angie Kelly

SWIM CLUB IS BACK FOR TERM 1!
After a hiatus, working on plenty of things behind the scenes, Swim Club is now in a position to return on Friday evenings in Term 1 of 2025. Given the protracted season, we’ve halved the membership fee to $30 per timed swimmer.
If your child loves swimming, and is keen to participate in some timed races, Swim Club is the perfect relaxed and sociable place to do it. We run timed events in all strokes, starting with 25m and also offering 50m and 100m events for those who qualify.
It’s a wonderful way to meet new families and also for the kids to spend some time with their friends. There’s a fabulous BBQ on offer each club night and a canteen - both raising funds for the P&C.
Sign up via Qkr!
Any queries can be directed to ironsideswimclub@gmail.com.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas, and we hope to see you poolside for our first club night on 31st January.
