Welcome to Term 1, Week 3 2025
Hi Everyone,
We had a wonderful School Council meeting last week and our focus was the future of Ironside State School and looking at the Strategic Plan for the next 4 years, as well as the Annual Implementation Plan for this year. I will now finalise these plans and will present them within the coming newsletters. I want to thank our School Council and let you know that we do have space for another community member to join us. Mr Matt Clohessy has been our School Council Chair in 2025 and has been an outstanding support to myself and the school during the transition period the principal changeover (never an easy time, I cannot personally thank him enough. The nominations to join our school council will come out soon, please consider getting involved with this important group.
This week we are having parent information sessions. These are sessions that outline the things you need to know about your child’s class for 2025, as well as the school. Please see the times and days in the calendar. In the coming weeks, I will have an information session about our school’s strategic plan for the next 4 years.
Attached to this newsletter is a link to the Student Code of Conduct which was sent out for parent and staff feedback in 2024. It has now been finalised, but we will always review it every year. Thank you for everyone involved in the creation of it and those of you who read and gave us feedback.
Congratulations to all of those children involved in District Swimming today!! Thank you for all of the time, energy and commitment that has gone into you getting to this point.
Coming up this week:
- Prep, Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3 Parent Information Sessions - Tuesday 11 February. Two sessions - one beginning at 3:30pm and one beginning at 4pm.
- Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6 Parent Information Sessions - Thursday 13 February. Two sessions - one beginning at 3:30pm and one beginning at 4pm.
- Year P-3 Merit Assembly, Friday 14 February, 9:15am in the hall.
Have you had a chance to check out where OSHC (Outside School Hours Care) is located now? Nat and the team have done the most incredible job setting it up and the children are just loving it. If you need to have your children cared for before 8:30am in the morning or after 3:15pm, consider enrolling them in OSHC, it is a fun and convenient option.
I am finishing this week with staff news. Mrs Robyn Behr, our very wonderful Year 2/3 multi-age class teacher has had to take leave quite suddenly to rest and prepare for a future operation. Mrs Behr is devastated to be going and the children in her class and their families feel the same way. We will miss you very much Mrs Behr and are sending all of our thoughts and strength your way and hope to see you back soon. Thankfully we have Mrs Phoebe Anderson who is able to come and teach our Year 2/3 class for the remainder of the term and we welcome her to our team.
Have a truly fabulous week!
Yours in Education
Angie Kelly
PS See below a photo gallery from Week 41 last year. We had so much fun, but I didn’t get to share what I captured, so here are a few snaps. :)
1A
The students of 1A have been settling into school beautifully, and this week, we’ve been diving into the world of numbers in our maths lessons. We’ve been focusing on different ways to represent numbers, helping our students understand their value in a variety of fun and creative ways.
To make learning even more exciting, we took our lessons to the carpet! Using chalk, students drew representations of numbers—whether through tally marks, number lines, or even grouping objects—transforming the floor into a canvas of colourful math exploration. This hands-on activity allowed the children to express their understanding in a playful and engaging way, while also fostering creativity and teamwork.
It’s been an exciting week of learning, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for 1A as they continue to grow and explore the world of numbers!
