Term 1, Week 4 2025
Acknowledgement of Country
Ironside State School acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging for they hold the traditions, culture, memories and hopes of Indigenous Australia. The Turrbal Aboriginal Nation, who spoke the Jagera Language, roamed these lands.
Welcome to Term 1, Week 4 2025
Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for those of you who managed to make it along to our Parent Information Nights. Please feel free to send us through feedback. I am thinking that potentially next year, we can simply send you the powerpoint presentation and you can come in and look at the classrooms and have Q&A sessions with the teacher once you have read their presentations at home. Anyway, please let us know what you want to get out of Information Nights. Thank you to all of our teachers for taking the time out to connect to our families, these relationships are paramount.
Congratulations to all of our Students of the Week that were presented Merit Certificates at the Prep to Year 3 assembly on Friday! This Friday, it is our Year 4-6 Merit Assembly beginning at 9:15am.

This Friday we have our volunteers induction for our Religious Instructors. I would like to thank them in advance for volunteering their time and expertise to instruct our children, we are very grateful.
All the very best to our girls heading to the District Netball Trials this Thursday. We can’t wait to hear all about it.
A reminder to all of our parents and caregivers that having our children become independent is such an important skill. Please in the mornings, remind your children of their jobs when they get to school but then let them do it themselves - they will feel so proud of themselves
Coming up this week:
- District Netball Trials - Thursday 13 February.
- Volunteers Induction for Religious Instruction.
- Year 4-6 Merit Assembly, Friday 14 February, 9:15am in the hall.
I am asking three favours from me to you our parents and caregivers!
- I am looking for some volunteers who have the skills to remove our Cello stands from the walls and move them into our new Strings Classroom.
- I am also looking for parents and caregivers who are interested in joining me in a working party to help us put together Harmony Day activities. We are having Harmony Day on the last day of the term - Friday 4th April and given that we are a school with many cultures within it, it is even more important here at Ironside State School.
- We are also looking for parents and caregivers who could help us with the covering of readers with clear contact.
Please email me if you would like to be involved in any of these things, we would be so grateful - akell58@eq.edu.au
Have a truly fabulous week!
Yours in Education
Angie Kelly

Around Ironside
2A
What a wonderful start to the year for 2A! The kids have settled in beautifully, full of excitement and ready to learn. They’ve loved having their very own desks and pencil cases, making calendars and celebrating special events like Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day.
In maths, they’ve been building three-digit numbers with MABs and sharpening their addition and subtraction skills. In English, they’ve been busy writing opinions about characters and confidently sharing their ideas in our very special author’s chair. But the biggest hit? Learning about the continents in HASS—especially singing our continents song! 2A has been a hive of activity and we can’t wait for all the fun and learning ahead this year!

Year 1 and Year 2 Junior Choirs – A Fantastic Start!
We have had a brilliant start to our Junior Choirs, with many enthusiastic students visiting Mrs. Huxley’s Music Room last week to experience the joy of singing together. Thank you to all the children who came along to see what choir is all about!
The Junior Choirs are open to all students in Years 1 and 2. Rehearsals take place during first break on Mondays for Year 1, and Wednesdays for Year 2.
Junior Choirs are all about building a love of singing, working together as a team, and growing confidence to perform in front of others. During Weeks 3 and 4, all Year 1 and 2 students are welcome to come along and give it a try. By Week 5, enrolments will be finalised, and members will be expected to commit to weekly rehearsals for the remainder of the Semester (minimum).
We have lots of exciting performances ahead! Our first performance will be at the end of Term 1 Assembly, where both choirs will combine to lead the school in a special Harmony Day song. As we move into Term 2, the Year 2 Choir will have the honour of leading the school for the Australian and New Zealand Anthems at our school ANZAC Ceremony, while the Year 1 Choir will have an assembly performance scheduled (date to be advised). An extra special opportunity awaits the Year 2 Choir, as they will represent our school at Choral Fanfare in May (date to be advised).
We look forward to another wonderful year of music and singing with our Junior Choirs!

Ironside Strings
Dear Parents,
Please see the attached timetable for term 1 Strings.
You will notice the timetable rotates a little differently. Because many year levels have 1 hour specialist lessons, I have spread the rotation out a little more, so students don’t miss the same specialist lesson. Students will only miss each time slot once per term.
Any problems or questions please let me know.
