News from Mr Johnson

Dear Parents,

2021 – OPEN CLASSROOMS
Next year sees the commencement of the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan. In this plan is an explicit strategy to reconnect with our parent community post this most interesting year. 2020 is a year that will remain a historical benchmark for generations to come.

In order to ‘hit the ground running’ in 2021, I would like to extend an invitation to all our parents and families to take advantage of our Open Classroom initiative.

Our Open Classrooms will take place across the first three days of the 2021 school year.

On Wednesday 27 – Friday 29 January, between 2:30pm – 3:00pm you are welcome to come to Ironside, visit and spend time in your child/children’s classroom(s) and have an informal catch-up / meet and greet with the classroom teachers.

We are all very much looking forward to returning to a sense of ‘normal’ as we all move forward from 2020.

2021 – ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
Next week I will send stand-alone information with maps outlining the expectations for arrivals and departures from school in 2021. This will be in particular reference to those who use a vehicle as their mode of transport to and from school.

Along with this, there will be information in relation to student and parent movement in and around Ironside, before and after school in the New Year.

2021 – CLASSES
The 2021 class lists have been finalised. We are receiving a number of emails with further requests for considerations as friends and families move and leave the school. Please understand that the process of developing classes is complex work. No further information can be considered at this extraordinarily late stage.

DEBATING WORKSHOPS
Anwesha Jain (Ironside Alumni 2016) has asked me to forward onto our community, information regarding online debating workshop opportunities, which she is leading. Please see the links below and the PDF information brochure at the end of my section.

  • YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLE02MV4Uc4kcy2ekVEO5Yw

As this will be the last full newsletter for 2020 – I would like to say a personal and BIG thank you for all of your support and understanding this year. What a year it has been. Have a wonderful and restful break with family and friends. If you are traveling do so safely.

School resumes for students on WEDNESDAY 27 JANUARY 2021. Come and take advantage of our Open Classroom Initiative.

Take care, stay safe and well.

News from Mr Murdoch

Dear parents and caregivers,
Prep 2021 - Meet Your Teacher
As the name suggests, this is an opportunity for our future Preppies and parents to meet their classroom teacher, classmates and see the classroom. It is also a great way for families to connect before the new school year begins.

Due to COVID restrictions on adult gatherings we will be running three Prep ‘Meet Your Teacher’ opportunities on the day.  This limits the number of adults onsite at any given time, and gives families the opportunity to share the moment with their children.  Each child will be able to have two adults attend this event.

Class placement emails have been sent advising families of:

  • Class
  • Classroom teacher and
  • Time and process regarding ‘Meet Your Teacher’

Just a reminder that you will be entering the school via Central Ave (not through the office) to check-in for the session.

We look forward to seeing all of our new students and families next Monday.

End of School Year
2020 has certainly been a year like no other.  It has presented a number of challenges but it has also provided opportunities for reflection and growth.  To the Prep – Year 2 students of 2020, on behalf of your teachers and school staff, I would like to congratulate you all on your ability to adapt to the ever-changing landscape that was presented and to rise to the challenges before you.

We wish you all a very safe and happy holiday.  We look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.

Take care.

News from Mrs Vecchio

Meet Your Teacher 2021
On Monday 7 December, students will have the opportunity to meet their new teachers for 2021.

Year 1 – 6 2021:
“Meet Your Teacher” for students continuing at Ironside in Years 1 – 6 2021 is planned for

2:00 – 3:00pm.
Students from each year-level cohort will join their new teacher and new classmates for an orientation session in their 2021 classrooms.  Students will bring home a “Meet Your Teacher” information sheet to share with parents.

If your child is absent on the “Meet Your Teacher” day, information about their class placement can be provided by contacting the school office on Tuesday 8 December or Wednesday 9 December.

Warmest wishes
Wishing all of our students and families a peaceful and well-deserved vacation, with the hope that we can all catch up with loved ones.  This year has reminded us of the importance of family ties like no other.  Take care of yourselves and cherish each other!

We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Wednesday 27 January 2021.
