Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

We wish all Ironside famillies a safe and Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

School resumes for 2023 on Monday 23rd January 2023, we look forward to seeing you all again then.

School Council Gift 2022

The Student Council have been working hard this term to come up with ideas for a helpful gift that we could leave to our school community. Our outcome was to purchase a lockable noticeboard, to give future students a central space for communicating information about various events and fundraisers. Our future leaders and school community will definitely benefit from this remarkable gift. The noticeboard will be located in the library basement (where the Year 6 students currently eat). Hopefully in the years to come, the noticeboard will be utilized by multiple teachers and students in a productive way. As well as information about events, agendas and timetables will hopefully be displayed on the noticeboard to keep the Student Council and other students organized. Keep an eye out for the noticeboard over the coming weeks, and into next year! Thank you.

Japanese News

On Monday 28 November, students learning Japanese enjoyed a taste of Japan by eating an obento (boxed lunch) at school. Here are some of their reflections.

‘This was an unforgettable experience mixed with fun, food and learning as we took part in Japanese culture. The bento box was delicious with foods many students might not have had before.’ Kayla 6G

‘The bento box was different to what I usually eat. It was a good experience in tasting and seeing what Japan is like and Japanese traditions.’ Mahsani 6B

‘I really liked the bento box but I struggled to use chopsticks. It was so delicious and I used Japanese culture before and after eating. I had a great experience.’ Jareen 6A

‘It was a one of a kind experience to eat a bento with my friends at school.’ Chelsea 6C

‘This experience helped me to improve using chopsticks and to practise using the appropriate terms used before and after eating in Japanese.’ Aicha 6B

‘The bento box was a delicious, excellent experience to broaden and experience Japanese culture. This was a great way to help students learn and share the culture while enjoying a delicious meal.’ Layla 6G

‘The bento was a new experience for me as I had never tasted a traditional Japanese boxed dish. As soon as I took the first bite I could tell it was “oishii desu”. Overall, if I were to have this opportunity again, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Moosa 6A
